2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 Engine Review

This is the entry level engine that is known for fuel efficiency and decent power output. It comes with a turbocharger that is paired to a direct fuel injection system which together deliver a robust performance that is ideal for most lightweight duties. Of course, it has its limitations and we have discussed these at length in the Ford Raptor Buyer’s Guide, but when evaluated against a normal user criteria, it comes up at the top.

3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 Engine Review

This engine targets more advanced applications and it builds on the limitations of the 2.7L engine. It can handle more arduous tasks such as heavy towing and it builds on the limitations of the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. It’s the most balanced engine in the line-up and ideal for buyers looking for a vehicle that can applied for both work and play.

3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 Engine Review

This is a clean and efficient engine that delivers a similar level of power as the 3.5L Ecoboost engine but adds the desirable features of a hybrid engine such as better fuel efficiency and the instantaneous power delivery of an electric motor. The downside is that this engine is more complex with many extra components that introduce a lot of failure points when the miles start to accumulate.

5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 Engine Review

This behemoth is ideal for buyers who need a deep well of power and do not mind to sacrifice fuel efficiency. It’s a thirsty engine but this extra juice is worth it for those in need of muscle and hustle. This engine can haul unimaginable loads and chew the hills like a piece of cake.  From 2022, Ford introduced Cylinder Deactivation Technology (a fuel efficiency technology) which greatly improved its fuel efficiency. Of course this adds a layer of complexity and time will tell if this technology will hold up.
